Okay. It seems that SalonCon is not something that's going gently into the good night. We are going to have (yet another) meeting to discuss options in feasiblity for doing a SalonCon potentially for 09.

*If* we did and *if* we fundraised sufficent funds, I think we would have it at the usual hotel (Somerset Holiday Inn). Would having it later in September help people, like say Sept. 25 - 27?

Whilst we are meeting, please put on your thinking caps as to:

1. What could we offer as gifts for donating? (which would need to be something donated to us. . .in other words if someone's like, give out socks! We would need said socks donated)

2. Do you have anything to auction off to the cause?

3. How soon would you really buy tickets/vending space?

We are *very* *very* tentatively thinking that *if* we did this, and we did not raise sufficent funds, we would either keep the money for '10 or give the money to a charity of our choice (saveours00j), depending on funds. If we did raise enough to do '09, obviously saveours00j would still be our charity and receive the usual charity efforts.

Part of our decision making process will be based on your feedback. As one of my favorite (somewhat inelegant) movies goes, "If any of you have anything to say, now's the fucking time!"

I would suggest Late September for a few reasons. It will not compete with other cons. People can re-wear their steampunk outfits for this con and can save costume money for their ticket and hotel. A later con can let some people save money leading up to the con to attend it when it is not so close to other cons.

Having a place where people can share rooms might be good as the attendance can be large but the overhead cost for each person can be low. The same could be done for rides to the convention. Not to mention a page on the website detailing all the public transport options from all major areas.

As far as things to auction off I can make a new Steampunk heart that the Doktor Von Crankenshaft wore when he won the Male category of the Costume contest. I can also offer a Steampunk photo shoot (even a night shoot in the park like my Jack the Ripper shots in the Steamfashon community) session with all images at web resolution on CD and one 8" x 12" photo print. The winner would have to come to NYC for the photo shoot. I can offer four of these sessions to be bid upon.

I would also be willing to help put up fliers as part of a "street team" to help promote the con and get more people interested. Not to mention help create the art for said fliers. I can create black and white PDF files for people to e-mail and print out in old skool punk fashion.

I would suggest canvasing all the steam communities and goth communities to get more press about the con. Have the fact that people are banding together to make the con work as the main focus of the press release. Hit as many publications as possible. Let everyone know that they need to attend.

Ask vendors to offer a special discount for Salon Cont attendants. This way there is incentive for people to come. Even asking for people to make things as "door prizes" so that every 5th person signing in at the table wins a prize. Many Etsy people should be able to offer at least one item for a good cause.
